How to dress for an interview

Rummage through the clothes you brought from back home. Find a good blazer, but no suit. Don’t have much money either. Panic.

Ask your very good ‘local’ friend for help. (Note: A ‘local’, not a ‘townie’) The savior drives you through the town’s cheap stores looking for a not-so cheap looking suit. Find one which says ‘young man’s suit’ and fits you – almost. Pay peanuts.

Get the suit altered to your size. Again ask the angel to help you. She finds a good ol’ tailor for you and drives you there. You give your measurements and all. The interview day is coming close. Pray.

The day before the interview go to the Italian tailor to collect the suit. Try the suit while hearing the kind-hearted old tailor tell you his tales from the past. See pictures of his village devastated during World War II. Listen to his unbelievable stories of landing in America with no knowledge of English, only $20 in pocket and lots of courage in heart. Feel like watching Godfather again. Feel like meeting The Godfather the first time. His parting words – keep fighting. Praise, thank and pay (a lot more than the suit).

On the day of the interview, try your best shirt. Find its collar button missing. What the heck, try another. Feel uncomfortable after just 5 minutes – the collar is too tight. Last option, and this shirt turns out to be good. The tie matches. Leave house minutes before the interview but reach on time. Perfect.

Get rejected even after doing well in the interview. Blog about it. Prepare for next.
